How to insert Flash content into the Page Editor

Flash files are multimedia content that can be streamed through the use of a Flash Player. Flash is commonly used for streaming video or audio however it also supports animation, games and rich internet application. Using the Flash Insert block in the Page Editor makes Flash content accessible to website visitors.

1. Uploading Flash content to the CMS Firstly, access the CMS system and open Website Assets folder. Next, click into the Flash Movie folder and select the Shockwave Flash Movie icon. Once a new item has been added, you can then type in a Display Name and/or a Description. Upload your Flash movie by selecting Item Properties from under the Options title and opening the Properties (With Upload) pop-up. Click Choose File to open the File Finder, select the item and then press Click to Upload File. Remember to click Save & Close once you're finished. Extra Tip The file you upload must end in either "swf" or "flv". The maximum upload file size is 39.30 Mb. 2. Add from Page Blocks When you are in the Page Editor, click Add under Page Blocks and then from the Gadget tab, select Flash Insert and then Create. 3. Linking to the correct Flash file Once a Flash Insert block has been added to the editor, double-click on it to bring up the Hotlink Directory. Click into the Flash folder and select the Flash file previously uploaded to the CMS library. 4. Adjusting the additional options Right-click on the Flash Insert block to bring up additional options. This allows you to adjust the height and width of the video in pixels, change the colour of the background using hex colour codes and add in variables using HTML in the FlashVars field. Extra Tip Hex codes make up the different shades of colours to bring one whole colour – they tell the webpage to set something to a particular colour e.g. #ffffff represents white which is the default for the flash video background.
